Are you an emerging Film and TV Documentary maker or Podcast Creator?

Do you fancy winning some cash towards your production? 

The Whickers funds and recognises original and innovative documentary.  We seek to use the generous legacy of our namesake, pioneering broadcaster Alan Whicker, to support emerging film and audio documentary-makers in the funding and production of director-led programmes. 

We have TWO annual awards: the Film & TV Funding Award and The Podcast Pitch Award. 

1. Film & TV Funding Award for emerging directors from anywhere in the world working on their FIRST 50+ minute film as director (or co-director) which fulfils the criteria detailed here.   

The main award is £100,000 and a second development grant award of £20,000.

2. The Podcast Pitch Award.   This is a joint initiative with Sheffield DocFest and is open to all Podcast creatives NOT just first timers who fulfill the criteria detailed here.

The main award is £5,000 to the winner and a second prize of £2,000 to a runner-up. 

Five finalists will also receive a free pass to Sheffield Documentary Festival in June 2024, 1 night of accommodation, a contribution of up to £400 per project towards their travel expenses and access to top industry professionals and commissioners of the audio world.

The Whickers were established in 2015 to fund and recognise original and innovative documentary. We seek to use the generous legacy of our namesake, pioneering broadcaster Alan Whicker, to support emerging film and audio documentary-makers in the funding and production of director led programmes. The Whickers are comprised of two annual awards: the Film & TV Funding Award and The Podcast Pitch Award. We also run a Bursary Scheme in four regions of the world where funding for documentary is limited for socio-political or economic reasons.
